"MainStreet" Community Information Gathering Meeting on 3/2/17

Date: Mar 2, 2017 18:00:00
Details:   "MainStreet" Community Information Gathering Meeting on 3/2/17 re Mountainair Fire Recovery

At the February 21, 2017 Mountainair Town Council Meeting, Mayor Riley invited the MainStreet Program people from NM Dept. of Development to gather information from the fire-affected business owners, fire marshal, town council members, and community on Thursday, March 2, 2017. Community meeting will be at 6 pm that day at the Saul Center on Roosevelt, Mountainair, to share and gather information. Charlie Deans and Dan Gutierrez said they are familiar with Mountainair from MainStreet's Frontier Program which funded the new Monte Alto Park. They said that since Mountainair is now a "brownfield site" due to the fire, they can possibly offer some opportunities to restore the burned area and even the downtown. They can offer a resource assessment team, a restoration plan (for up to $50,000 with no match), and can bring other partners and funding sources into the restoration process. First of all, after the information is gathered on March 2nd, they would have to define the area of restoration via a designation report, which would take about a month, and then bring it to the Town Council for approval. This can be a small plan for just the burned area or a larger plan for the downtown area. Second, they can offer some tools so the town, which must be the fiscal agent for grant funds, is not in violation of the anti-donation clause, which prohibits government from helping private entities, and they can help secure rural development and other grants. PLEASE ATTEND THIS MARCH 2ND COMMUNITY MEETING TO GIVE AND GET INFORMATION.
